Upside vs Outlier: research app or price scanner?

Updated November 3, 2026 · Written by the Upside team

Outlier and Upside both help with player props, but they start from different places. Outlier is a research app. It shows a player's recent games, matchups, injuries and trends, then adds odds and +EV tools on its higher plans. Upside starts from prices. It compares what every book and pick'em app is paying for the same bet against a fair price, and ranks the gaps.

We make Upside, so read this with that in mind. Every claim about Outlier links to Outlier's own site, help center or app listing, checked on November 3, 2026.

The short answer

Pick Outlier if you like to research a player before you bet and want a polished phone app to do it in. Its $19.99 Premium plan is the cheapest way into either product.

Pick Upside if you want +EV plays, arbitrage and pick'em slips ranked for you across every book. Upside's Silver plan has all three for $59.99 a month. Outlier puts its full +EV feed and arbitrage on Pro at $79.99.

What each one costs

Outlier has three plans. Premium is $19.99 a month for prop research, odds comparison, line movement and alerts. Premium+ is $29.99, sold as an early bird rate, and adds +EV badges and live odds movement charts. Pro is $79.99 and unlocks everything, including the full +EV feed, arbitrage, middles and React Live, its separate live betting app. Annual plans save about two months.

Upside also has three. Silver is $59.99 a month for the +EV optimizers, arbitrage and low hold across sportsbooks, pick'em apps and prediction markets. Gold is $159.99 and adds Whale Watch. Diamond is $199.99 and adds +EV Sniper, live betting and the VIP Discord. See all plans.

So for prop research alone, Outlier is cheaper. For +EV and arbitrage, Upside Silver costs $20 a month less than Outlier Pro. For live betting, Outlier Pro at $79.99 is cheaper than Upside Diamond at $199.99.

Where Outlier is better

Research. Outlier is built around a player's numbers: recent games, splits, matchups, injuries, game scripts and AI breakdowns. Upside has none of that. If your process starts with "how has he done lately", Outlier fits it and Upside doesn't.

Phone apps. Outlier has iPhone and Android apps. Upside runs in your phone's browser and has no App Store app.

A cheaper way in. Premium at $19.99 a month is less than a third of Upside's cheapest plan.

Middles and live betting for less. Outlier Pro includes a middles finder, which Upside doesn't have, and its React Live app for $79.99. Upside's live betting is on Diamond at $199.99.

Where Upside is better

More pick'em apps. Outlier shows PrizePicks and Underdog lines. Upside prices PrizePicks, Underdog, Betr, DK Pick6, Sleeper, Dabble, ParlayPlay and more, and builds whole slips. The PrizePicks Optimizer shows the +EV slips on the board, not just single picks.

Prices first. A player's last few games are usually already in the line, because the books have seen them too. We wrote about why recent stats are mostly priced in. Upside skips the stats and goes straight to the question that decides a bet's value, whether this price is better than fair.

Tools Outlier doesn't list. Upside has a Low Hold finder, and Whale Watch tracks where the biggest bets and prediction market orders land. We couldn't find either on Outlier's site.

Free tools that do real work. Upside's Odds Screen and Steam Chaser are free with an email, no card.

How each one works out fair odds

Both remove the vig from other books' prices to get a fair price. Outlier uses Pinnacle by default, and Pro lets you choose several books and weight each one. Upside blends every book by default and lets you switch to sharp books only, Pinnacle only, or your own weights on every plan. How book weights work.
